What to Wear to a Spring Wedding
Jul 18th 2023
Guys, you can follow this simple guide for ideas on what kind of attire is expected for such a celebratory occasion. Keep in mind that these tips are for those attending as a wedding guest.
White Tie Attire
You've got an invitation to a white tie wedding. Get ready to attend one of the swankiest, most elegant events of the spring wedding season. You, and all the other gentlemen attending, are going to be following a traditional dress code that requires you to show up wearing a tuxedo (with or without tails), and there may also be a waistcoat involved. In addition to a white bowtie and dress shirt, your tux is accessorized with a white pocket square and silver cufflinks. A white floral lapel pin adds a dash of extra flair. Your shoes are black oxfords with black shoelaces.
Black Tie Attire
Black tie weddings are always formal and you're going to look spiffy in your black, dark grey or dark blue tuxedo. Alternatively, you can opt for a black, grey or dark blue dinner jacket and matching dress pants. Wear a white shirt and a black bowtie. Accessorize with stylish black suspenders and a silk pocket square that complements the outfit.
Cocktail or Semi-Formal Attire
No need for a tuxedo at this wedding. However, you must show up wearing a nice suit or a cocktail jacket and dress pants. You should look sharp but not be aiming to steal the groom's attire thunder. There's room for uniqueness in the accessories you choose. Stick with the white dress shirt because it's easy and goes with everything. As for a tie, you can wear a bowtie or regular tie in a solid pastel color or springtime print, just be sure to keep it classy. The same goes for a pocket square.
Instead of a belt, opt for dress suspenders in traditional solids or spring colors. Cufflinks are a nice addition but optional. Good shoe choices are Oxfords, Brogues (a style of shoe that features decorative perforations, Derby and Monk straps.
Casual Wedding Attire
When the invitation says casual attire, that doesn't mean you can show up wearing any old thing you feel like throwing on. It does mean that you can wear whatever nice suit or dress pants and jacket ensemble you already own to the wedding. White- or pastel-colored shirts work well for spring. A floral tie is a nice touch, but you can choose any solid color or pattern that complements your outfit. A pastel-colored pocket square is a nice alternative to white. Business and dress suspenders offer more visual pizazz than a belt. And your choice of shoes can be Derby, Monk straps or Loafers.
No Dress Code Attire
This is the most casual wedding attire of all, and that means you can show up wearing what's most comfortable. If you want to look good in those wedding photos, we suggest you put together an ensemble that includes a nice pair of slacks or a nice pair of dark denim jeans with a button-down shirt (short or long sleeves) with a lightweight blazer. Elevate the look with skinny suspenders and a bowtie. Put on a pair of Monk straps, Loafers or Dress Sneakers to complete your casual look.
